When I was a seminary student I ran into a stream of thought that was expressed with an adamant declaration that the era of the prophets and biblical prophecy came to an end with the incarnation - God with us in the fullness of Jesus Christ.  The argument seemed to follow a reasoning that God, having sent Jesus as his revelator, no longer has nothing more that needs to be said.  We have the Gospel.  We have Jesus.  We no longer need prophets.

There is something beautiful in the transaction of giving your children guidance, watching them follow it, and having them see things work out well for themselves, out of your instruction.  Magnificent!  Our experience, the things we’ve learned along life’s journey, passed on to our children, and then our grandchildren, and on and on.  All for their good.

Truth made real

John Wesley’s Methodist Quadrilateral outlined Wesley's four different sources for coming to theological conclusions.  The four points of the quadrilateral were Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience.  Scripture was the strongest point of the quadrilateral, but all four points were given importance.
